Youth Opportunities Unlimited Announces Leadership Transition as CEO Steve Cordes Retires

After more than 35 years of dedicated leadership and 41 total years of service, Steve Cordes has announced his retirement as CEO of Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU), effective August 15, 2025.

Under Steve’s leadership, YOU has expanded significantly, creating transformative initiatives like Joan’s Place, the Housing First Youth Shelter, YOU’s Community Youth Hub, The Cornerstone project, and YOU Made It social enterprises. His deep commitment to youth empowerment, social innovation, and community building has left an indelible mark on the organization and the lives of those it serves.

A Thoughtful Transition, A Strong Future

To ensure a seamless and stable transition, YOU’s Board of Directors has launched the search for its next CEO. Steve will remain in his role through mid-August, working closely with the leadership team and board to ensure continuity, stability, and a strong foundation for YOU’s next chapter.

"Leading YOU has been the greatest privilege of my career," said Steve Cordes. "This organization is built on incredible people—our staff, partners, funders, and most importantly, the youth we serve. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this journey, and I look forward to seeing YOU continue to thrive in the years ahead."

A celebration of Steve’s leadership and contributions will take place later this year, with details to be announced soon.
