Reporting to the Employment Team Leader, the Canada summer job student is responsible for the successful completion of the project allotted. Qualified candidates possess exceptional organizational and documentation skills, work well in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and hold values that support our corporate vision of being “A community where youth are embraced and will thrive”.
Responsibilities, but are not limited to the following:
- Assist youth in all areas of job searching, including; resumes, cover letter writing, skills assessment, job searching, and goal setting.
- Facilitate pre-employment workshops, enter case notes and complete data entry, assist with running summer events, including job fairs, and liaise with community partners and employers for youth job placements.
- Support a marginalized and barriered youth population in gaining life skills, training, and employment experience.
Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional teamwork and collaboration abilities.
- Experience supporting youth with job search activities, including resume and cover letter writing, goal setting, and skills assessment
- Strong facilitation skills to lead pre-employment workshops and engage youth in interactive learning
- Knowledge of community resources and the ability to liaise with employers and partners to support youth employment opportunities
- Experience working with marginalized or barriered youth, with a strong understanding of equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed approaches
- Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Should be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment. The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
- The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
- Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, a youth visa, or a work visa, are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labor market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labor market.

Pay: $18.33 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 35 per week
