Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement, the Canada summer job student is responsible for the successful completion of the project allotted. Qualified candidates possess exceptional organizational and documentation skills, work well in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and hold values that support our corporate vision of being “A community where youth are embraced and will thrive”.

Responsibilities, but are not limited to the following:

•    Take ownership of preparing for events by organizing inventory, transporting products, setting up and dismantling displays, and arranging merchandise to reflect YOU’s brand standards. Assist with product sampling, provide knowledgeable customer service, and process transactions.
•    Guide enterprise clients through the purchasing process with professionalism, ensuring a positive experience from initial engagement to after-sales support. 
•    Mentor youth trainees, providing hands-on guidance in customer service and sales. Foster a positive learning environment and help develop their skills and confidence.
•    Contribute engaging social media content that fits YOU’s presence at local markets and events, encouraging community participation
•    Support product demonstrations at local partner retailers to increase sales and community engagement 
•    Maintain a high-level understanding of YOU programs and services 
•    Assist the Director of Community Engagement with administrative support for the YOU Breakfast and other events as requested.
•    Participate in health and safety training, including WHMIS 
•    Report any violations of the Health and Safety Act or the regulations, or the existence of any hazard
•    Ensure all workplace incidents are reported in a timely manner in accordance with legislation, policies, and procedures 
•    Duties otherwise assigned

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends
  • Strong customer service and sales skills, with the ability to professionally guide clients through the purchasing process
  • Experience in event setup and inventory organization, including merchandising and product sampling
  • Ability to mentor and support youth trainees in customer service and sales
  • Familiarity with social media content creation to promote events and community engagement
  • Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Should be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment. The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
  • The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
  • Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, a youth visa, or a work visa, are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labor market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labor market.

Job Type: Internship / Co-op

Contract length: 10 weeks

Pay: $18.76 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 35 per week
