Reporting to the Employment Team Leader, the Peer Mentor will be responsible for supporting youth engaging in programming at YOU by navigating and supporting youth attending appointments, acting as the first point of contact to YOU programming, coaching and mentoring youth, and tracking client information. This position is responsible for working with a variety of clients, navigating services in London, and assisting with administrative duties. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Lead participants in clean-up duties for Clean Slate
- Assist and instruct Clean Slate participants in performing their duties in accordance with YOU’s health and safety practices
- Engage participants, partners, and community members, as appropriate, ineffective supportive relationships
- Provide navigation support of YOU services and connection to programs in the community
- Maintain and enhance relationships with businesses benefiting from the Clean Slate project
- Provide administrative support to the program staff, and the projects they are supporting
- Provide mentorship, guidance, share lived, and learned experience, and one-on-one support to the Participants
- Assess the questions posed by the Participants and direct participants to the applicable staff for responses
- Assist in the preparation of reports as required by programs
- Assist and maintain the general cleanliness of the business properties in Old East and Downtown
- Assist and maintain supplies for the performance of Clean Slate duties
- Be prepared to support participants that may be experiencing crisis situations, or are de-escalated
Specific qualifications to include:
- Completed programming at Youth Opportunities Unlimited
- Experience supporting youth in a mentorship role
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with youth, employers, and community partners
- Demonstrated understanding of YOU’s blended model of service and the diverse nature of programming
- Knowledge of programs and services for young people
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, meeting targets and deadlines
- Upholds and models the Mission, Vision, and Values of YOU
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to build relationships, negotiate, persuade, manage conflict, and work with diverse clients
- Ability to communicate and de-escalate with members of the public
- Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends
- First Aid /CPR certification is required, Suicide Prevention, Crisis Intervention, and Prevention Training (PMAB or CPI) is an asset

Pay: $17.82-$19.65 per hour
