Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Building Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing maintenance tasks to ensure the building and outdoor premises are in good condition. Qualified candidates possess exceptional attention to detail in cleaning and maintenance work, work well in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and hold values that support our corporate vision of being “A community where youth are embraced and will thrive”.
Responsibilities but are not limited:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks to support YOU teams and customers.
• Coordinate and manage vendors to successfully complete maintenance and improvements across YOU sites.
• Ensure prompt and respectful responses are provided to requests and issues from tenants and employees
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving urgent maintenance issues to ensure resident safety and comfort.
• Communicate effectively with residents about maintenance schedules and procedures.
• Complete vacant suite turnover and shelter room turnover
• Assist with general cleaning, including sweeping and mopping floors, wiping surfaces, disposing of garbage, and ensuring overall cleaning of the interior and exterior of YOU service locations
• Complete drywall repair, sanding, painting, and trim
• Managing plumbing and HVAC issues, including toilet and faucet repair, fix leaks, and assessing HVAC issues
• Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance tasks on equipment and property systems.
• Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance issues and report findings to the Facilities Manager.
• Assist in maintaining a schedule for regular maintenance activities.
• Complete facility repairs to damaged doors, knobs, and locks
• Ensure all equipment dedicated to the physical security of tenants, participants, and employees is functioning properly (closed-circuit televisions, alarms, sensor tag systems, locks, etc)
• Assist in tracking and maintaining inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment.
• Manage landscaping and snow removal
• Other facility maintenance tasks as required.
• Participate in health and safety training, including WHMIS and apply this knowledge in the workplace
• Report any violations of the Health and Safety Act or the regulations, or the existence of any hazard
• Ensure all workplace incidents are reported in a timely manner under legislation, and YOU policies and procedures for workplace injuries and incidents
• Rotational On-Call every two to three weeks
Qualifications:
- Proficient in performing repairs such as drywall, painting, plumbing, HVAC troubleshooting, and door/lock fixes.
- Ability to communicate respectfully and clearly with tenants, staff, and vendors about maintenance issues and schedules
- Physical ability to move furniture and perform manual tasks.
- Skilled in coordinating vendors, managing maintenance schedules, and tracking supplies effectively.
- Knowledge of WHMIS and ability to follow safety protocols, report hazards, and respond to incidents appropriately.
- Quick and effective at resolving urgent maintenance issues to ensure safety and comfort for residents and staff.
- Attention to detail in cleaning and maintenance work.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Good communication skills.
- Cabinet-making or woodworking skills would be considered an asset.
- Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends
- Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Should be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment. The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
- Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, a youth visa, or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labor market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labor market.

Pay: $18.33 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 35 per week
