Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) is seeking a consultant with extensive teaching, youth education, and curriculum-building experience to design and develop an interactive, modular youth soft skills education program. The consultant will lead the creation of a practical, youth-centred curriculum focused on building the pre-established top 20 soft skills that an employer expects from a new hire (youth) with limited to no experience. These are the behavioural and workplace competencies required for youth, particularly those facing employment barriers, to successfully enter and sustain employment.
The final deliverable will be a complete, implementation-ready soft skills curriculum that can be used repeatedly both in a classroom and online (YouTube) across YOU programs.
This is the contractual position ending March 31, 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design a modular soft skills curriculum with clearly defined learning objectives.
- Develop youth-facing learning materials that are accessible, engaging, and practical.
- Create facilitator guides that include activities, discussion prompts, and coaching strategies.
- Develop realistic workplace scenarios and interactive exercises aligned with employer expectations.
- Engage youth participants to evaluate materials and incorporate feedback.
- Collaborate with YOU staff to ensure materials are usable across service streams.
- Finalize and compile all curriculum materials by March 31, 2026.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Demonstrated extensive youth teaching and curriculum building experience (e.g., Retired Teacher) – successful teaching techniques, curriculum planning & instructional design and training development.
- Experience teaching youth, particularly those facing employment barriers.
- Strong facilitation, consultation, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage timelines and deliver high-quality work within a tight project period.

- Youth-facing materials and facilitator guides.
- Interactive exercises and workplace scenarios.
- Documentation of youth feedback and employer validation.
- Final curriculum package ready for implementation across YOU programs.
