Reporting to the Café (FOH) Team Leader & Events Coordinator, the Barista & Off-site Server plays a critical dual role within YOU Made It Café’s satellite food services. At the satellite Café, during the week and on rotating weekends, the Barista is skilled at leading, preparing and serving various breakfast and lunch menu items, making espresso-based drinks, serving customers at a counter, cleaning machinery and tables, and collecting payments.

During rotating weeks, this role is also responsible for offsite food service & delivery, including buffet style service setup and teardown, packing, loading, and unloading food and supplies, inventory return, customer service and interaction, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of mobile server equipment. The incumbent ensures that buffet presentations meet YOU’s standards for food safety, visual appeal, and guest satisfaction, often acting as the face of service at community-based sites.

The Barista & Off-site Server ensures seamless coordination between onsite and offsite activities, supporting logistics, food safety compliance, and youth mentorship. This position serves as a key ambassador for YOU’s enterprise programming, delivering a welcoming experience to guests and supporting skill development opportunities for youth trainees in both café and offsite contexts.

Working collaboratively with the broader Food Services teams, this position plays an essential role in maintaining operational excellence, guest satisfaction, and positive youth outcomes through structured support and real-time feedback in a fast-paced environment.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Executes day-to-day operations, including food and beverage preparation, serving, cleaning, and collecting payments, while providing exceptional customer service
  • Offsite food service & delivery, including buffet style service setup and teardown, packing, loading, and unloading food and supplies, inventory return, customer service and interaction, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of mobile server equipment
  • Interacts with guests and members of the community, providing superior service and representing YOU
  • Implements and maintains strategies for café sales targets
  • Prepares general correspondence
  • Implements and maintains strategies towards the Perfect Guest Experience program
  • Prepares goods for coordination and execution
  • Coordinates daily logistics & offsite service coordination
  • Coordinates & communicates inventory and stock levels for ordering
  • Coordinates food safety and cleanliness program of Food and Beverage activities.
  • Assists with the training of new staff
  • Participates in health and safety training, including WHMIS, and applies this knowledge in the workplace
  • Report any violations of the Health and Safety Act or the regulations, or the existence of any hazard
  • Ensure all workplace incidents are reported in a timely manner in accordance with legislation, and YOU policies and procedures for workplace injuries and incidents
  • Other related duties, as required

Requirements:

The incumbent must have strong food service, customer service, and guest retention skills, with strong attention to details and be comfortable with a variety of people. The incumbent must demonstrate friendliness, creativity, and flexibility in dealing with the public, youth participants and YOU staff. Additionally, the following qualifications are expected:

  • Completion of Highschool or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years combined experience in a food services prep, barista and / or serving role
  • Required Certifications:
    Safe Food Handling & Smart Serve
  • Demonstrates strong customer service skills that enhance the Café guest experience.
  • Knowledge of public health standards for cleanliness and hygiene in the various kitchen areas, including refrigerators, storerooms, and product rotation to ensure high standards of freshness.
  • Experience with food production in a café/restaurant setting, with a strong emphasis on customer service.
  • Demonstrated abilities in administrative tasks such as record keeping and statistical tracking.
  • Experience working in a quick service restaurant and using a Point-Of-Sale.
  • Demonstrated professional work habits.
  • Ability to adhere to all Youth Opportunities Unlimited guidelines, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and other software programs is required.
  • Demonstrated compliance with all governmental and regulatory requirements ensuring safe food handling practices
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check required upon hiring

HOURS OF WORK

  • 35-39 hours per week (includes a rotating 7-hour Saturday shift every 3-weeks); flexible schedule (on average 4 - 6 days per week) depending on the customer needs of YOU
  • Extended hours and Sunday work may be required from time to time
Starting Wage:

CA$18.33 - CA$23.39 per hour
