Reporting to the Woodshop Production Manager, the Woodshop Coordinator and Youth Mentor is responsible for supervising and leading Youth trainees associated with the Woodshop. The Woodshop Coordinator and Youth Mentor ensure that all projects are completed in adherence with the plans and specifications approved by the Woodshop Production Manager. Qualified candidates possess exceptional cabinetry design, communication, mentoring and leadership skills, work well in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and hold values that support our vision of being a community where youth are embraced and will thrive. 

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Provide continuous supervision and direction of all youth to enforce and maintain all health and safety guidelines as outlined in our internal health & safety requirements for the Woodshop and the Employment Standards Act. 

  • Conduct onboarding general health and safety, and equipment specific, training to Youth working in the Woodshop. 

  • Ensure all projects are completed in adherence with the plans and specifications provided by the Woodshop Production Manager. 

  • Liaise with Woodshop Production Manager to ensure all tasks are completed.  

  • Plan, design, sketch (software), create billing of materials, and execute custom jobs/projects as per customer direction. 

  • Manage materials and supplies to ensure project timelines are adhered to.  

  • Oversee training of various tools and equipment and professional development of youth trainees. 

  • Write email reports and create/update spreadsheet tracking documents, as required. 

  • Participate in team meetings and other requirements for the success of the youth. 

  • Represent YOU in the Woodshop, including relaying information to the correct personnel as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of post-secondary education and a minimum of 3 to 5 years related cabinetry work experience. 

  • Demonstrated experience leading a diverse team of staff and volunteers (more than 5) 

  • Previous experience working with youth educating them on woodshop and carpentry trades and knowledge. 

  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, meeting targets and deadlines, and ability to manage a variety of daily operations and special projects. 

  • Flexibility in scheduling to meet production needs. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Outlook, and Excel. 

  • Proficiency in Sketchup design software. 

  • Strong relationship management skills, customer service, attention to detail and comfort with a variety of people and personality types.  

  • Demonstrates friendliness, creativity, and flexibility in dealing with the public, youth participants and YOU staff.  

Hours of work:

  • 37.5 hours per week 

  • Day Shift – Monday to Friday 7am – 3pm with a 30-minute lunch
