Current volunteer opportunities:

  • Host a youth in your workplace - an opportunity to job shadow will help youth learn specific and transferable employment skills.
     
  • Neighbourhood Clean Up at Emergency Youth Shelter (585 Clarke Rd., London)
    • Volunteers are needed to walk the shelter property and surrounding neighbourhoods picking up/removing rubbish. Days and times are flexible and safety training will be provided.

YOU Board of Directors

Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) is seeking values-driven, community minded candidates to fill current vacancies on our Board of Directors. If you’ve ever attended a YOU Breakfast, enjoyed a YOU Made It product, hired a youth participant, been a youth participant or followed YOU’s work in supporting youth experiencing homelessness / housing insecurity, you will know how vital and innovative our services are.  This is an opportunity to share your governance expertise and/or your lived experience by helping shape this organization’s ongoing governance and development.

About the role
YOU is seeking new Directors to join our governing Board and help us implement our new strategic plan.

Successful applicants will embody our Mission, Vision and Values and bring passion, commitment, and innovative thinking to support our collaborative and inclusive approach to community service. As a board member, you’ll be prepared to contribute to vigorous discussions, current analysis and planning that will help provide strong governance and stewardship to this multiservice, dynamic organization.

Time commitment and expectations
The YOU Board of Directors is comprised of 13 volunteer members + the CEO (ex-officio) which meets on the final Thursday of each month 7:30 – 9:00am; using both virtual and in-person meetings.

Board members serve two (2)-year terms which can be renewed up to 4 times. Members must be willing to commit up to four (4) hours per month.

We expect our board members to:

  • Contribute to, attend and actively engage in board meetings
  • Attend/participate in community activities and events aligned with YOU
  • Support fundraising
  • Remain informed of and support YOU’s programs and services
  • Seek and participate in development and training related to your work on the board, including orientation and training sessions

Qualifications and experience
YOU is committed to ensuring that its Board of Directors is diverse and representative of our community. We encourage Indigenous, ethno-racial, LGBTQ+, immigrant, refugee, and differently abled members of other equity seeking groups to apply. YOU is committed to providing lived experience voice at the board table.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and live/or work in London or Middlesex County.

Previous Board experience (not-for-profit) would be an asset.

Experience in finance, governance, risk management, fundraising, marketing, HR or legal would be an asset.
