Reporting to the Community Youth Hub Team Leader, the Community Youth Hub Worker will support youth with experience of chronic, unsheltered homelessness to establish permanent, safe, and appropriate housing plans while accessing beds at the Community Youth Hub. Community Youth Hub Workers will be responsible for the successful day-to-day operations of the Community Youth Hub, including conducting intakes, discharges, and assessments, and providing individualized support to youth accessing the Community Youth Hub. Community Youth Hub Workers will utilize a harm-reduction and trauma-informed approach, exercising compassion to support youth experiencing crisis, mental health imbalance, or behavioral challenges. Qualified candidates possess exceptional communication and de-escalation skills, work well in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and hold values that support our corporate vision of being “a community where youth are embraced and will thrive.”
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Support youth accessing the Community Youth Hub with intake, assessment, goal setting and tracking, life skill building, wellness education and support, and appropriate community referrals
- Facilitate daily programming, including basic needs provision, informal mental health support, and crisis intervention
- Track administrative data about the program and document client activity in the form of case notes, occurrence reports, and data entry into appropriate client case management systems (e.g. Web Tracker, HIFIS)
- Work from a Housing-First, harm-reduction, and trauma-informed approach, utilizing compassion and de-escalation strategies in accordance with policies and procedures
- Contribute to the health and safety of the Community Youth Hub participants and staff by assisting with general cleanliness, identification of safety concerns, and general site operations in accordance with standards, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Completion of post-secondary education at a college or university level in a human relations or social services field or combined equivalent education and a minimum of 2 years related case management experience
- Extensive knowledge of local support for youth
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and affected by poverty, trauma, mental health imbalance, substance use, and the justice system
- Knowledge of Housing First principles and philosophy
- Experience working with a diverse population, including persons from diverse cultural backgrounds, 2SLGBTQIA+ groups, and youth
- Strong case documentation, statistical reporting, file management, and organizational skills
- Ability to build interpersonal and supportive relationships with youth clients
- First Aid/CPR Level C certification required
- Suicide Prevention, Crisis Intervention and Prevention Training (PMAB or CPI) is an asset
- Flexibility in scheduling to meet program needs
- Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check for Youth Population
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Outlook, Excel, and SharePoint as well as other online software programs required
- Working knowledge of HIFIS is an asset
- Must have access to reliable transportation
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: Starting wage $19.25 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 37.5 per week
